Understanding the insurance pricing talent landscape
As significant shifts continue in the insurance landscape, attracting and retaining the best insurance pricing talent is more challenging than ever. At FlarePeople, we’ve spoken with pricing leaders across the industry who consistently tell us the same story: it’s tough to find professionals with the right blend of data skills, commercial acumen and insurance know-how - and once you find them, retaining them is another battle. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Insurance Times to launch a targeted, insurance pricing survey designed to pinpoint exactly where the pain points lie and how we can work together to solve them.
Why this survey matters.
Not long ago, Insurance Times published its Talent Development Report 2024 (in association with RSA), which highlighted broad challenges around skills, recruitment timelines and early-career programmes across general insurance. But as we dug deeper and spoke to pricing leaders in particular, it became clear that the talent challenges in pricing are uniquely acute and often under-represented in broader talent studies.
Pricing teams must not only be fluent in statistical modelling and data analysis, but also understand the commercial drivers and risk landscape that shape insurance products.
By launching this survey, FlarePeople and Insurance Times aim to capture a granular snapshot of:
Recruitment Challenges & Timelines: How long does it really take to fill open underwriting or pricing roles? What bottlenecks slow the process down?
Skills Requirements & Gaps: Which technical and soft skills are most in demand and where are the biggest shortfalls?
Talent Programme Engagement: Are teams investing in internships, graduate schemes, or return-to-work initiatives? If so, how effective are these programmes in practice?
Diversity & Inclusion Efforts: What strategies have teams adopted to attract a broader range of candidates and where do they see room for improvement?
Retention Metrics: Once onboarded, how long do new hires tend to stay? What are the primary factors driving turnover?
Our goal is simple: arm the industry with data-driven insights so that insurers can make more informed decisions when designing recruitment strategies, skill-development initiatives and retention roadmaps.
The survey at a glance.
Survey Period: Live now through Friday, 4 July 2025
Who Should Participate: UK-based pricing professionals (from analysts to team leads and hiring managers)
Format: A brief, 12-question online questionnaire that takes approximately 5–10 minutes to complete

Incentive: Every participant will receive early access to the full report when it’s published in July 2025
Every voice counts. By contributing your firsthand experience, you’ll help shape an industry-wide report that will not only reveal common obstacles but also highlight best practices and actionable recommendations.
Introducing the Pathfinders™ Academy.
While this survey is our first step in gathering intelligence, FlarePeople has built a solution to address the insurance pricing talent crunch head on. The FlarePeople Pathfinders™ Academy offers the UK’s first recruit-train-deploy (RTD) programme focusing exclusively on insurance pricing and designed to fast-track new talent into the marketplace.
Recruit: We actively source candidates from diverse backgrounds—STEM graduates, early-career professionals, ex-forces personnel and career returners - people who demonstrate strong analytical aptitude and a passion for insurance.
Train: Over a 10-week immersive programme, our insurance pricing expert trainers provide comprehensive training in insurance pricing, modelling, regulatory frameworks and commercial context. Participants work on real-world case studies, collaborate with industry mentors and build the critical thinking skills that pricing teams demand.
Deploy: Upon completion, graduates of Pathfinders™ Academy join partnering insurers on an initial-contract basis. That means they can hit the ground running from day one, equipped with both technical proficiency and a deep understanding of your organisation’s unique needs.
By focusing on a tailored curriculum and ongoing mentorship, the Pathfinders™ Academy seeks to alleviate two of the biggest challenges pricing teams face: the lack of candidates with balanced skill sets and the difficulty of sustaining trainee engagement once they’re hired.
