A recruit-train-deploy programme finds people with potential, trains them for a specific kind of work, then places them in teams that need them. For insurance pricing, that means recruiting for aptitude rather than pricing experience, training people in pricing tools, methods and governance, then deploying them into insurers' pricing teams ready to contribute.
It's an alternative to relying only on experienced hires, who are scarce, expensive and slow to find. FlarePeople is the UK's only recruit-train-deploy programme built specifically for insurance pricing. This post is our plain-English explainer: what the model is, how ours works step by step, and who it suits.
How is recruit-train-deploy different from standard recruitment?
Standard recruitment matches existing CVs to job specifications. Recruit-train-deploy builds the capability first, then places it where the work is. It works in three stages:
Recruit people for aptitude, attitude and potential, not only existing experience
Train them in the technical, commercial and industry skills the work needs
Deploy them into client teams, where they contribute to live work
That's why it suits niche, technical work like pricing, where the pool of experienced people is small and the same few names get passed around the market. You can't recruit your way out of the insurance pricing talent gap explains that problem in more detail.
How does the FlarePeople model work?
In three steps. How it works has the detail of each.
Step 1: Recruit
We recruit STEM graduates, ex-armed forces veterans, and career returners and changers. Selection is for aptitude and attitude. No pricing experience is needed.
Step 2: Train
The Pathfinders™ Academy runs for 10 weeks, mostly online, through modules you work through at your own pace, live training and webinars with the pricing team, with some in-person days. The syllabus covers:
SQL, Python, MI, GLMs, segmentation, monitoring and GBMs
Radar, deployment and testing
Governance and Consumer Duty
Communication and power skills, insurance sector knowledge and business acumen
Step 3: Deploy
Pathfinders are employed by FlarePeople and contracted to client pricing teams for an initial contract period, typically 24 months, with the option for the client to take them on permanently. They make an impact from day one. Every Pathfinder we've trained is now working as a pricing analyst with a UK insurer.
Who does recruit-train-deploy suit?
Two groups: pricing leaders who need capacity, and people who want a way into pricing.
Pricing leaders
It suits leaders who need more analytical capacity, want less reliance on a few experienced people, and want a pipeline rather than one filled seat. If you want to estimate when a Pathfinder could start contributing in your team, try our time-to-impact calculator.
People who want a career in pricing
It also suits people who want to move into insurance pricing but don't have the experience job adverts ask for. If you're a STEM graduate, an ex-armed forces veteran, or a career returner or changer, you can register your interest with your details and a CV. We will be in touch if you are a good fit for our next Academy.
Why build a recruit-train-deploy programme just for insurance pricing?
Because pricing is specialised enough that generic training doesn't prepare people for it. Ours is built around the work pricing teams actually do, from monitoring and governance to explaining decisions to stakeholders, rather than generic tech or data roles.
